Unshielded twisted pair cable （UTP CAT 5 /5e） is made of multiple pairs of twisted pair and a plastic jacket. The CAT 5 /5e cable refer to the five different levels defined by the International Electrical Industry Association for twisted pair cables.
CAT 5/5e UTP is a cable that appears after improving some of the performance of the existing CAT 5/5e UTP cable, and many performance parameters, such as near-end crosstalk, attenuation crosstalk ratio, return loss, etc., have been improved, but its transmission bandwidth is still 100MHz.
CAT 5/5e twisted pairs also use 4 twisted pairs and 1 tensile wire, the color of the pair is exactly the same as the five twisted pairs, respectively, white orange, orange, white green, green, white blue, blue, white brown and brown. The bare copper cable diameter is 0.50mm(cable gauge is 24AWG), the insulated cable diameter is 0.90mm, and the CAT5/ 5e UTP cable diameter is 5.0mm. Although CAT 5e UTP can also provide up to 1000Mb/s transmission bandwidth, but often need to rely on expensive special equipment support. Therefore, it is usually only applied to 100Mb/s fast Ethernet to achieve the connection of desktop switches to computers. If you are not ready to upgrade your network to Gigabit Ethernet in the future, you may wish to use CAT5/ 5e UTP cables in the horizontal wiring.
